Candle Care
Candle Care & Safety
A little care goes a long way. Follow these simple guidelines to get the best, longest, and safest burn from your handcrafted candle.
Before You Light
- Trim the wick to about 5mm (1/4 inch) before every burn. This prevents sooting, uneven burning, and an oversized flame.
- Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from anything flammable.
- Keep away from drafts, vents, and fans, which can cause uneven burning and excess smoke.
The First Burn
The first burn matters most. Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container before extinguishing — this usually takes 2 to 3 hours. Doing this prevents "tunnelling," where the candle burns straight down the middle and wastes wax around the sides.
While It's Burning
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
- Stop burning when about 1cm (1/2 inch) of wax remains at the bottom.
Extinguishing
For the cleanest result, use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it again. Avoid blowing the candle out, which can cause smoke and scatter hot wax. Never use water to put out a candle.
Caring for Your Candle Between Burns
- Always trim the wick before relighting.
- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.
- Store your candle in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to protect the fragrance and colour.
A Note on the Wax
Our candles are made with natural soy wax & Beeswax. You may occasionally notice a frosted or slightly uneven appearance — this is a natural characteristic of wax and does not affect the quality or burn of your candle.
